THE HIGHWAYS
AGENCY has responded to local campaigns to reduce the noise
from the A180 by announcing that more of the road will be
resurfaced with low-noise materials.
The westbound section from
Ulceby to Croxton will be resurfaced later this year or early next
year. More than £3 million will be invested in the
scheme.
The original campaign for
resurfacing was launched by Shona McIsaac and Habrough residents
more than 10 years ago. Since then, the Habrough section has been
resurfaced.
However, the campaign continued
with Shona, alongside Austin Mitchell MP, getting the support of
Stallingborourgh, Healing, Great Coates and Ulceby parish
councils.
Shona commented: 'Once the
Habrough section was resurfaced, people realised what a difference
it made - noise for residents and drivers was reduced. That gave us
the energy to keep the campaign going by putting pressure in the
Highways Agency and minister.
'I had a meeting with transport
ministers recently to tell them that there had been too much
stalling and people were getting fed up. They promised me they
would try to do something about the resurfacing. So it’s good to
know that they took note of our feelings.
'But there is a sting in the
tail - only the westbound carriageway will be completely resurfaced
- the eastbound will just be patched up. I have discussed
this with the Highways Agency to ask them to resurface
both east and westbound. After all, the machinery will all be on
site.'

The noise on the A180 has been loud when you drive on it but even worse at home as we can hear it from our house. Great news that the westbound carriage way is being resurfaced but why not the
eastbound. Don't they want people to go to Cleethorpes! |

Good news regarding the westbound carriageway. I travel to Hull several times each week, the huge cracks and ruts in the westbound, nearside lane are dangerous and damaging. The eastbound carriage
way should be done at the same time, it's just ludicrous not to. A question - the lovely Barnetby Top to Humber Bridge road (?) is lovlier still now that it has been completely resurfaced. Could
someone tell me why this more than adequate road was closed and completely resurfaced and yet the apalling A180 remains apalling? |

Support your campaign to have both carriageways resurfaced. This is long overdue and we need to be rid of this unsafe noisy concrete road. |

It's good to hear that the A180 is to be resurfaced between Ulceby and Croxton (presumably that's the whole stretch from the A160 interchange to Barnetby Top?) because the whole road - both
carriageways - isn't just noisy, it's dangerous too. I hope your campaign is successful in getting both carriageways done ASAP! I'd also like to see the A160 from the A180 junction to South
Killingholme addressed - the Ulceby junction is a death-trap! Traffic lights would be a start, although a roundabout would probably be better and safer. |

Although we cannot hear the noise described by some from where we are in the village ,the issues are to do with road safety first and foremost. The noise when driving could be a distraction and
therefore potentially lethal if a driver is sufficiently distracted so that his/her driving be impared and an accident thus caused. It seems without logic that when the equipement is on site they are
only half doing the job when a full re-surfacing of both carriageways could be done. I know that funds are limited -- especially as we live in a country where all too many people regard taxation as
akin to being mugged -- but surely , in the long term, it would be cheaper to do a proper job in one go on this occasion , than have to come back to it again at a future date . Finally I would like
to thank Ms Mc Isaac for her hard work in campaigning on the resurfacing of this much used road, which is important for the economy of our region, convenient for those travelling to and from the
seaside for leisure, and essential for those who use it to commute to work; it is ,therfore, for all these reasons, that I believe we have a strong case for demanding that both carriageways be fully
resurfaced. |

Thanking you for all your efforts so far. The eastbound carriageway is well overdue resurfacing and can be a danger with all the repair works that have been undertaken so far. I live in Ulceby &
noise levels with the windows open is continuous. Lets hope more Ulceby residents support your request for replies. |

First of all thanks for your effort and successful campaigning in getting the westbound carriageway re-surfaced.I imagine that the decibel levels when driving on the concrete are high enough to
warrant wearing ear defenders and our children breath a sigh of relief when we reach the re-surfaced road. Clearly it makes more sense to re-surface both carriageways in terms of economics and noise
reduction. I live in Ulceby and the noise from the A180 is a constant background irritant |

I travel to Grimsby from Barton every day via the nightmare that is the A180. The return journey is even worse than the outbound one. The pits, cracks and unevenness is dangerous, the noise is
indescribable. I have often seen cars and lorries in front of me swerve when they hit a rough patch and of course you can't see the bad bits when it's been raining heavily. If they can find the money
for the A15 which wasn't anywhere near as bad, surely they can sort out the A180 which is a far busier road. It's been needing resurfacing for years. Enough is enough!! |
