  Save Habrough Post Office

HABROUGH PARISH COUNCIL have launched a campaign to save the Post Office in Habrough.

It's clear that people do not want the post office to close, but the council will need the support of everyone in the village if we have any chance of overriding the decision.

There is a petition to sign at the post office so please sign this if you haven't already.

And anything that you'd like to send to me either through the website or in writing I shall forward on to the board to help fight the decision.

Letter sent to Post Office Board and Minister Pat McFadden Read Shona's letter to the Post Office Board and the Minister at the Department for Work and Pensions, Pat McFadden as part of the Habrough Parish Council's Campaign to save the Post Office in Habrough.

THURSDAY 13 DECEMBER - UPDATE!

Post Office Ltd have announced that the decision to close Habrough Post Office will proceed.

This will come as a huge disappointment to residents who have fought so hard.

Shona is in discussions with Post Watch about a further appeals process.

There has never been a vote in the House of Commons to close Habrough Post Office. There has been a recent debate on the futire of the Post Office, though. In that debate there were two motions
before Parliament. One motion called for a suspension of the reorganisation. However, it wasn’t retrospective. Thus it would not affect areas like ours, who have now been through the process already.
It wouldn’t have re-opened a single post office that had already been closed. All it might achieve is to stop the redundancy payments to subpostmasters. The second motion before the House of Commons
proposed to invest of £1.7 billion into post offices between now and 2011. This is the motion I supported. It was also the motion supported by the Federation of Sub Post Masters. Without the extra
money that this motion proprosed, an estimated 7,000 more branches would have to close – we probably would not have any post offices between Scunthorpe and Cleethorpes. The Tories in Parliament
opposed the extra money, which shows the true hypocrisy of their position. As someone who fought against the privatisation of the post office before entering Parliament, I know that the Tories would
in their hearts like to be shot of the post office – just as they did all those years ago.
