  Campaign for A414/M11 Link Road

I am campaigning for a link road to be built between the A414 and the M11. Congestion is getting worse and I believe that a bypass is the only solution to reduce the number of cars driving through Harlow.

I need your support to show the Government that Harlow residents really want this to happen.

What can you do?

Whilst I understand the need for this bypass, surely if you reduce the amount of traffic going through Harlow, then you will be reducing the trade for local shopkeepers? And yes what will the
proposed 'new route' be? Thanks

A new link road is long overdue, but if the cost of rail was substantially lower then maybe the congestion would not be so bad. Perhaps we could all claim the cost of first class rail travel like
MPs!

Whilst I understand the Government's need to be seen to be spending money on projects to kick start the economy, the proposed widening of the A414 between the M11 interchange and Southern Way in
Harlow is a complete waste of funds. The South bound crriage way was dualed some years ago, at no doubt great expense, only to be taken down to a single carriageway bottle neck by cross hatching at
the Southern end! The act of dualing the whole section in both directions and putting traffic lights at the Southern Way crossing will do nothing to improve traffic flow. The M11 Interchange doesn't
work, clogging up within minutes when there is a problem on the M25 as far away as the A10. Roundabouts don't cope with the high levels of traffic experienced at such junctions. Putting lights on a
roundabout doesn't help either. It is ridiculous that all traffic wishing to head North on the M11 from the North and North West of the town and even from Sawbridgeworth and beyond has to first head
South across Harlow. The only way to alleviate the problem is to have a junction North of the town allowing access to the M11. Anything else, especially such a cheap stop gap measure as proposed,
will cost money for no benefit. As a start, why not remove the cross hatching I mentioned earlier, providing a dual carriageway on the South bound M11 approach. I bet it'll make no difference at all!

I definately agree 101%,this will reduce the congestion in and out of harlow thus avoiding long delays and wastage of time on the road.Well Done Bill Rammell for the good work you are doing for
HARLOW.

Can you put a map of the proposed route on this site? Without some knowledge of where its going its hard to offer support. Its not all about towns, we need to preserve the countryside as well.

Ron Helder - Message left at 08:04 pm, Thu 20th Nov 2008

I would support your plan to keep Harlow mooving. At a public meeting in Potter Street when Church Langly was being proposed, it was agreed to try to get the infrastructure for expansion in place
before we cause danger and nuisance the current and future residance. This to this day seemed to be ignored in favour of income and profit from rents. it would be nice if local coucilers and MP's
could form a partenership with local people and business.

Sidney Rayner - Message left at 11:09 pm, Thu 30th Oct 2008

I whole-heartedly agree with David Cullingford's and Anthony Batrick's comments, because I know for certain that the only answer to Harlow's traffic problem is a by-pass north of the town. Also bus
lanes are definitely NOT the answer,as I said in a written answer to your previous letter, the bus drivers often ignore the bus lanes because they know by experience that they can get through the
traffic lights sooner by driving on the ordinary road lane.So I suggest that all the bus lanes in the town be removesd and returned to ordinary road lanes.I know this would cost more money, but it
would be worth it in the log term.

I agree with you that we need a link road to the M11

John Guyton - Message left at 02:12 pm, Tue 28th Oct 2008

Of course I agree; it's essential. But like Frances Meehan I would like to know the proposed route before giving blanket support.

Frances Meehan - Message left at 11:16 am, Sat 25th Oct 2008

Please can you publish a map of where you propose to put this road. I cannot find a map clearly showing the proposed route anywhere on the internet.
