One of the best parts of my job as your MP for
the past 13 years has been meeting people from diverse communities
throughout the constituency. I am proud to call Poplar and
Limehouse my home - it's a truly amazing, vibrant and diverse place
to live.
Everyday I see how people
of different ages, cultures, races and religions work together
improving their local areas and building stronger links between
communities. I see charities, businesses and public services
helping local residents make better lives for
themselves.
I want Poplar to be a
place where families can thrive and feel secure. I want to continue
delivering the new homes that Britain's young families and
prospective first time buyers need - affordable and built to high
standards of design and environmental
sustainability.
I will do all I can to
ensure no one in Poplar misses out on opportunities to prosper in
life. Our children's futures should not depend on class or
connections, birth or background, on where you come from or whom
you know.
Labour is committed to
ensuring education or training is available to all 18 year olds and
the network of local Sure Start centres show those community values
in action.
These values are more
relevant now because of the huge opportunities that exist in our
society; these must be spread fairly. I believe only a Labour
government will stand up for our community and create a future fair
for all.
