Mark Todd, MP for South Derbyshire

I have been Member of Parliament for South Derbyshire since the General Election of May 1, 1997. In that time I have been contacted by more than 15,000 households (around one in four of those in the area) On many occasions my assistance has resulted in progress and I am always glad to hear constituents' views on the issues of the day. This website provides information on my work, both in and on behalf of the constituency.

June 2 - Aston and Pauline honoured for their voluntary work

AN 18-year-old NHS volunteer is due to attend a reception hosted by the Prime Minister in recognition of their work.

A-level student Aston Cresswell, of Etwall, has been working at the Accident and Emergency reception at Burton's Queen's Hospital every Sunday for nearly a year.

The Repton School pupil, who is hoping to study medicine at Bristol University, has given up her spare time despite studying for her A-levels. She will sit her first exam on Wednesday morning (June 4) before travelling to London for the NHS Volunteers Reception which is being hosted by Prime Minister Gordon Brown at Downing Street.

Aston will be joined by Mark who nominated her for the event.

He said: "Aston has shown great character in taking up the challenge of volunteering at the hospital. She is only 18 yet is willing to give up her time to help others. It shows that serious volunteering can happen at any age."

Pauline Spratt, from Burton, will also be at the reception with Burton MP Janet Dean. Pauline has been a volunteer for the Queen's League of Friends for 28 years and chairman for 21 years. In that time, she has helped to raise £1.1m and currently volunteers for more than 25 hours a week at the hospital. She has been campaigning for a League of Friends shop for many years and this July the shop will finally open.

The reception, which is being held to mark Volunteers Week and the 60th anniversary of the NHS, will be held between 430pm and 6pm.

Promoted by Ray Collins, General Secretary, the Labour Party,on behalf of the Labour Party, both at 39 Victoria Street, London, SW1H 0HA.
