Safer Stations Success!
In a major success for Dawn Butler MP's safer stations campaign, Bakerloo line stations in Brent came under the control of the Mayor of London on Sunday 11th November.
In a ceremony held at the Willesden Junction Station on Monday 12th November the formal launch of the London Overground came into being.
Backed by the Willesden and Brent Times, Dawn Butler MP began her Safer Stations campaign in 2006 following the death of Thom Ap Rhys Price. Dawn's Safer Stations campaign called for
staffing on brent's stations throughout the hours of operation.
Immediate improvements to these stations will be implemented by the Mayor of London along with a planned refurbishment programme.
From day 1 there will be a dedicated and more visible staff presence at all stations throughout opening hours. Soon all stations will be installed with ticket gates (except South
kenton), oydter ticket services will be made available and within 30 days of transfer all the stations will be deep cleaned.
Dawn Butler MP said: 'I'd like to thank everyone who backed the campaign. Thousands of residents joined together to secure massive improvements to our stations' security.
Through working together, this shows that we can get things done.
'I started this campaign because i believed that eeveryonehas the right to use public transport without fear. Now that we have stations staffed throughout the hours
of operation, they'll be much safer places to be.
'I am glad that the Mayor of London has acted on our campaign: public control will mean once again these stations are run for the benefit of all and not private
profit.'
