City of Durham Parliamentary Constituency Map

The City of Durham Constituency in the heart of County Durham in the North East of England. The Constituency covers not only historic Durham City itself but also the villages surrounding City. Durham City itself is home to the Durham Cathedral and Castle World Heritage Site as well as England's third oldest university.

Most of the County Durham villages surrounding the City have a proud history of coal mining, however following the closure of the mines, industry in the Constituency has become much more diverse.

The boundaries of the Constituency are the same as the boundaries for Durham City District Council, the whole area is also covered by Durham County Council and will be covered by the new Unitary council for County Durham from 1 May 2009.
