Honouring our Bevin Boys |
I am calling on all surviving Bevin Boys to come forward to claim a unique veterans badge as a tribute to their sacrifices during and after the Second World War. The Bevin Boys scheme was introduced in 1943 by the then Minister for Labour and National Service, Ernest Bevin, in response to an increasing shortage of labour in the coal mining industry. The scheme ran from 1943 to 1948 and involved recruiting some 43,000 men to work in the coal mines rather than serve in the armed forces. Postal Vote |
You can save yourself a trip to a polling station by making a postal vote. Anyone who is registered to vote can apply for a postal vote. If you live in the Llanelli constituency, Nia Griffith MP's office will be very happy to help you register for a postal vote. You can apply to have a postal vote for just one election, for a specific time period, or for a permanent postal vote. There are mechanisms in place to ensure that your postal vote is secure. In particular, it is an offence to complete a postal vote that is not your own, and to influence how others complete their postal vote. Register to Vote |
You have a right to vote and your vote is a vital part of the democratic process. You must be on the electoral register to vote in elections and referendums. If you think you may not be registered, for example, if you have recently moved home, then you need to register to vote. You can register to vote in future elections at any time of the year. You can register to vote if you are: 16 years old or over; and a British, Irish, Commonwealth or European Union citizen. Veteran's Badge |
What is the Veterans Badge? The Veterans badge is a lapel badge that can be worn by veterans in civilian clothing. It is a symbol of the contribution made by veterans to our country. The badge is now available to all veterans who served at any time up until 31st December 1994. For further details about how to obtain the badge, please contact Nia Griffith MP. Visit Parliament |
Nia is happy to arrange tours around the House of Parliament for people from the Llanelli Constituency. Tours are available both for individuals and groups, including schools and community organisations. There are a few restrictions on tours of the Houses of Parliament, therefore please contact Nia’s office at least four weeks in advance of any planned visit. There are particular restrictions on large groups and such groups should try to book at least four months in advance.
