Nia wants to see Hendy pool re-opened.
She has been actively supporting the campaign to re-open the pool. As well as attending local committee meetings when her parliamentary duties allow it, she has also attended a
national conference on lidos. This has enabled her to build up contacts with other groups running similar campaigns across the country and to exchange information about how to secure funding.
She was part of a delegation to the Department for Culture, Media and Sport which handed over a report that arose from the conference, and she will now be using parliamentary procedures to get a
response to this report from the department.
When talking about the pool, Nia says:
“One of the problems that we have to overcome is a reluctance to fund lidos because they are not open all the year round. It is important that we work at all levels to point out to the policy-
makers the benefits of outdoor swimming pools as places for all the family to relax and keep fit.
In today’s society when we are becoming more aware of how important exercise is in preventing heart attacks, facilities such as pools which can make exercise fun should be supported.
A recent petition has shown that the people of Hendy have a real enthusiasm for re-opening this historic pool and I will certainly be helping them to secure appropriate funding”
