Sedgefield Constituency

Sedgefield Parliamentary Constituency

Sedgefield constituency is situated in County Durham in the North East of England. The parliamentary constituency covers a much greater area than just the town of Sedgefield from which it takes its name. The constituency covers three districts, parts of Easington District, Sedgefield Borough and Darlington Borough. The "new town" of Newton Aycliffe is the largest settlement in constituency which is marked by a network of small towns and villages such as the Trimdons, Ferryhill, Fishburn and Sedgefield itself.

The constituency stretches from the outskirts of Durham City in the North and surrounds the town of Darlington on three sides in the South.

The area has a proud history of coal mining in its past. These old industries have since been replaced by more modern manufacturing. The Constituency is home of the flag-ship NetPark development which focuses on hi-tech industries.
