One Nottingham
Vision
One Nottingham's new
mission is "prevention, pre-emption, and early
intervention." One Nottingham has already introduced new
policies to teach every primary school child effective social
behavior, to tackle the 50 most difficult families in Nottingham,
to introduce a welfare to work scheme for Nottingham, to secure a
community court for our city, and much else. In addition, One
Nottingham is looking at how to support better parenting
skills for zero-two-year-old children and develop early
intervention strategies to reduce crime. "We want to become an
Early Intervention City, tackling the causes of Nottingham's
inter-generational deprivation, not just servicing its
consequences."
To make Nottingham a better place to
live, by tackling inequality and deprivation.

COMMON QUESTIONS AND
ANSWERS
What is One
Nottingham?
One Nottingham has been going just
over one year. It works to tackle deprivation and under achievement
in our city. One Nottingham’s Board set its
Mission to focus on “prevention, pre-emption and early
intervention”. It is an umbrella body which pulls
together all the organisations in Nottingham, from the large -
Police, the Local Health Service, City Council to the small -
community and voluntary groups, employers and you! Through One
Nottingham they break down the silo mentality and get “joined up”
working together in six Theme Partnerships on Crime, Health,
Children, Housing, Skills and Communities. In the jargon we are a
Local Strategic Partnership, and so we intend to be what is says on
the tin, local, strategic and above all a
partnership.
If you want more details, calls us on
0115 934 9555 and we’ll send you “One Nottingham - One Plan”, which
is the Community Strategy which we all signed up to and are now
implementing. We will amend it and move it forward each
year, so do send us any improvements
you’d like to see.
What is a Local Strategic
Partnership?
One Nottingham is a local strategic
partnership (LSP) . It brings together the public, private,
community and voluntary sectors based in Nottingham, so that every
one living or working in the city has the chance to have their say
about its future.
The Robin Hood
Connection
We all know the tale of Robin Hood,
stealing from the rich to give to the poor – well One Nottingham
may not be quite in our legendary hero’s league, but it does aim to
close the gap between the richest and poorest communities in our
city, by improving the most disadvantaged areas.
Why One
Nottingham?
Nottingham is sometimes seen as a “tale
of two cities” one rich and prosperous, the other suffering
hardship and deprivation. The city centre, with its wealth and
cosmopolitan lifestyle is surrounded by some of the poorest
communities in the country. One Nottingham’s goal is to narrow the
gap between these areas, and to shape a better future for us
all.
Why have a Local Strategic
Partnership?
Nottingham has 13 wards (plus pockets
of deprivation in other wards) that are within the 10% most
deprived wards in the country. This means that over 60% of
the city’s population live in areas of deprivation. One
Nottingham’s vision is to “reduce inequality, so that
no one is disadvantaged by who they are or where they
live”.
